EEK! It's Almost Christmas!
By Katy Agro Myers
The kids were so excited to remind me today that there's just 10 days until Christmas! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKK!
I am officially freaking out. I don't have all the gifts I need. If I'm being honest, I don't even know what I have or what I don't have. No idea who is coming to Christmas Eve at our house or what I'm serving. No idea when I'll get all the things done. I need to get wrapping paper, I need to get groceries. I'd love a pedicure too. But I also want to meet a girlfriend for lunch, enjoy holiday traditions with my family. Are you seeing my problem? I just can't seem to find the balance right now.
For giggles, I just googled "3 quick ways to find balance in your life." This is what popped up:
Finding time for self-care.
Spending quality time with friends and family.
Doing productive work.
Well, thanks Google...I think I just said I wanted to do all those things. 🙄
Yesterday, I got my hair done. My stylist is a long time friend and it was so good to just sit and enjoy her while my hair was processing. We dished about all the things and then we laughed until we had tears in our eyes. I had brought my computer with me to work while I was there, but decided never to get it out. Those were two hours that I could just be. Sit and let someone take care of me. To just enjoy the company of a friend. and I felt refreshed leaving (and my hair certainly was refreshed!)
So I'm going to keep trying to be in the moment. I'm going to keep waking up early to sit in the light of the Christmas tree. To watch the lights dance on the ceiling. I'm going to snuggle with my babies whenever they ask. I'm going to hold my husband's hand. I'm going to try to focus on making memories instead of trying to make perfect memories. And if I'm up all night wrapping presents on Christmas Eve...well, so be it.
I hope you all can also take some time to enjoy your friends and family this holiday season! Focus on the memories. Focus on the moments.
