Note from Nicole ~ Quit the Stress

By Nicole Donnelly

Every once in awhile, when life is handing me more stress than normal, I try to remind myself to sit and reflect. My thoughts often stray back to a story that a former colleague of mine used to tell about her 9/11 experience. Where she was, what she did.

Her story itself isn't where I land. It's how her story always ends. She always concludes with "let's remember that 90% of the things we worry about are not worth worrying about. At least for today."

This gets me thinking about the trivial things I worry about. A cracked kitchen floor tile. The grass that needs to be cut. The text I forgot to answer. The growing pile of laundry. I am usually able to make a mental list of almost 20 things right off the bat that I am currently worrying or stressing over. Then I go through and determined which ones are actually worth worrying about.

None of them.

In the grand scheme of things, they don't matter. What's important is my family. Taking care of myself. Spending quality time with my kids and husband. Watching my kids grow. And if something is getting in the way of those, that's when I need to start worrying.

I hope you all have a worry-free weekend full of memory-worthy family fun.

xoxo,

Nicole
