5 Fun April Fool's Jokes to Play on Your Kids

By Nicole Donnelly

It's April Fools Day! For our family, it's the perfect time to pull out our senses of humor with some fun, harmless pranks for the kids.

We prefer the jokes that have the kids laughing (and maybe even crying with laughter) over the ones that make them just plain cry. So our suggestions are silly pranks that will have everyone in the house giggling no matter who the joke is played on.

Turn Their Milk A Different Color

For the kids who drink milk and eat cereal in the morning, put a few drops of food coloring into the milk carton before you go to bed. When they pour their milk, they'll be met with a colorful surprise.

Shuffle Their Stuff

While the kids are at school, shuffle the furniture in their room around, change out their bedding, or change the pictures on their walls.

Swap Out Their Favorite Snacks

Swap out the bags from two boxes of their favorite snacks. When they open those Wheat Thins and find animal crackers, the giggles will surely come.

Serve a Silly Dinner

Crack your kids up with a special dinner. Make meatloaf in cupcake tins and frost the "cupcakes" with mashed potatoes frosting. For dessert? Make "grilled cheese" with slices of pound case as the bread and yellow frosting as the cheese. To drink, make Jello in drinking glasses with straws embedded to mimic juice.

Serve Up Some Brown Es

Grab your favorite brownie pan and some brown construction paper. Cut out a handful of brown E's from the paper. Put them in the pan and cover with foil. After dinner, tell your kids you made a special dessert and serve them your fresh batch of "brown e's."
